CITY INTERCOM
Our design proposal is inspired by the characteristic staircases
of the Latin Quarter in Copenhagen. Here citizens have reinvented
the use of the stairs into an informal piece of furniture used for
socialising and recreation; A non-commercial alternative to the
café, which serves to augment social sustainability in the
city.
We will introduce two new staircases to Copenhagen. One in front
of the Danish Design Centre and one in Fiolstræde in the heart
of the city.
The two staircases act as points of urban acupuncture on our designated
route. They are designed to stimulate conversation and pause on
two locations that currently do not offer a place to rest and socialise.
Our ambition is to emphasise the importance of the informal spontaneous
meeting, the conversation and places to rest.
The stairs are built solely using reclaimed materials from Genbyg;
a business dedicated to distributing reclaimed building materials.
At the end of the exhibition period all materials will be distributed
back for further reuse.
