| Copenhagen is both harbor city and bike
city but it has yet to see a real merge between the two. The project
Copenhagen Harbor Bikes aims to change that through a network of water
bikes and docking stations. We want to give citizens and tourists
of Copenhagen a greener, faster and better way to travel the city:
Copenhagen Harbor Bikes. As a first step in this process we're establishing
temporary stopping points along the harbor during Copenhagen Design
Week. These stops will act as information points for the project and
enable visitors to learn more about it.
With multiple venues in Christianshavn during Copenhagen Design
Week the need for fast and simple transportation across the harbor
has become obvious and the solution equally so - water bikes. Inspired
by the city bikes the water bikes will be the easy alternative when
traveling the waterways of Copenhagen. Water bikes can be obtained
at any of the docking stations in the harbor and dropped off at
a different one. Use them for sightseeing and get a different look
at Copenhagen or simply as a means of transportation.
BIKE CITY
Copenhagen wants to be the best bike city in the world and we want
to help. Already well on it's way with a multitude of biking routes
throughout the city the one area still neglected is the waterways.
For tourists the existing city bikes provides an easy and personal
way of sightseeing the city - something the Harbor Bikes can do
for the harbor and the canals.
HARBOR CITY
For bikers and pedestrians the harbor can seem like a big obstacle
that separates Christianshavn from the rest of the inner city. There
are not many alternatives for crossing and the heavily trafficed
Knippelsbro is far from ideal if you're on foot or on a bike. With
the Harbour Bikes we're tying the city closer together and bringing
the harbor and waterways of the city into the daily life of everyone
in Copenhagen.
THE STOPS
During Copenhagen Design Week we're setting up a number of temporary
stops along the harbor. Besides working as information stands and
focus points we encourage visitors to use the stops to attract the
attention of passing boats and try to get a ride. Until we get water
bikes in the harbor we'll have to settle with boat-pooling. Så
find the closest stop and go down and catch a ride!
